New Moon in Libra with Full Solar Eclipse October 2, 2024

Eclipse season is in full swing! This season will culminate October 2nd at 2:49 p.m. (EST) under the new moon solar eclipse in Libra. Solar eclipses mark a season of fated change and typically coincide with new beginnings in our lives. In order to create space for new opportunities or connections in our lives, an ending of sorts is usually also co-present. Solar eclipses hold all the energy and potential of a new Moon but amplified. On a new Moon, the Sun and Moon meet at the same degree in the sky and the veil between the subconscious and conscious is lowered. We can hear our intuition more loudly, feel our vibrations more clearly, and understand our desires more fully.

Coming through in the sign of Libra, these fresh starts highlight our closest ties and the reciprocity in our connections. People you meet around this time can feel fated or karmic, and if you choose to walk away from a relationship that has run its course, it can also feel “meant to be” – even if it stings. Libra is often associated with seeking balance, knowing your values, standing up for what is just, and having a creative mind. There may be a decision that you have to make under this eclipse, urging you to weigh the pros and cons. Since this is an eclipse, it can feel like which ever direction you decide to take will alter the trajectory of your life in a significant way.

Libra is the sign of justice. This solar eclipse and new Moon in Libra comes during an intense period of collective transformation. As the sign of balance and justice, Libra might stir up issues over this eclipse around how peace can be found amongst dramatic division. It may feel like the world and its countries are at odds with one another.

There may be some rough waters you need to navigate or issues you need to confront in your important relationships

At its core, Libra’s energy seeks to understand all sides of the equation. Libra possesses the unique skill of being able to hold two opposing truths and understand them. This doesn’t mean one is assigned right and the other wrong. Rather, Libra teaches us to understand the whole picture before making a judgement or taking a stance. True justice prevails when the full truth is revealed.

This is also a powerful time to reconnect with your voice and reflect on your values. Are you living according to your personal value system and taking aligned action daily? Or do you just have an idea of what you feel is right and let it live in your mind? Libra is a cardinal sign, which is all about initiating and forward movement. Here, you can merge your ideas and values with your words and actions to fight for what is just.

This band of the zodiac wheel can evoke feelings of discomfort or disappointment – but know that this is kind of the point! It’s in this section of the zodiac that we make commitments, through thick and thin, good and bad, sickness and health. There may be some rough waters you need to navigate or issues you need to confront in your important relationships-be it with roommates, a lover, a business partner, or family members. After all, pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone and choosing to show up and fight for your relationship is an act of devotion and an expression of your unwavering commitment and love for another.

A solar eclipse happens during the new moon phase, when the sun and the moon are in the same zodiac sign, and the moon sits directly between the Earth and the sun. What distinguishes a solar eclipse from any typical new moon is the fact that the moon is also located on the same horizontal plane as Earth, thus moving directly in front of the sun from our vantage point.

The location of the moon right along the path of the Earth’s orbit during the solar eclipse also places it either the south or north lunar node (invisible points in the sky associated in astrology with fate and destiny). In turn, a solar eclipse is thought to bring about fated occurrences, redirecting our path or bringing us in touch with people that may play a significant or serendipitous role in our lives.

More specifically, solar eclipses are associated with fresh chapters and new beginnings, given their occurrence as the new moon phase. Simultaneously, they can set off a period of surrender and letting go, in order to create room for the newness.

The Sun and moon sit next to Mercury in Libra, aka the planet of the mind. Eclipses are notorious for revealing information or obscuring facts, so it’s possible that you experience a revelation or even feel like there’s more to a story that’s unfolding. With Mercury in such close proximity to the sun’s powerful rays, conversations may also take place in secret, or you may want to keep a sudden epiphany or next bright idea to yourself for the moment. And think twice before engaging is gossip: Karma can come back to bite you right now.

This eclipse is also conjunct Mercury, the planet of communication. You may find yourself in a state of information overload or taking part in intense discussions. Libra teaches you to listen with openness but to reserve your opinions or judgements until after the entire story is told. It can be tempting to react, especially if you are triggered. Eclipses bring up intense emotions, and they can be challenging to manage.

The Moon and Sun square Mars in Cancer, bringing up even more tension. Notice feelings of restlessness, impatience, or pure anger. Also notice any frustration that arises around a lack of direction within yourself or the world at large. Mars stirs up many emotions. Luckily Cancer, which helps us feel our intuition beyond our desire to act, can help ease the intensity of Mars.

Harvest Moon in Pisces with Partial Eclipse

The Harvest Moon in Pisces, with a partial lunar eclipse. The full moon will reach peak illumination in the United States on Tuesday, September 17 at 10:35 p.m. The Harvest Moon is amongst my annual favorites, a Harvest Moon in Pisces makes me damn near giddy! The moon will appear full for about three days, from Monday evening through Thursday morning.

This Super Harvest Moon in Pisces brings a wave of deep emotional introspection and spiritual awakening. Pisces, ruled by Neptune, invites us to dive into our intuition and explore the hidden realms of our dreams and subconscious. This lunar phase opens a portal for healing, creativity, and empathy, encouraging us to release old wounds and embrace a higher vision. It’s a time to trust the flow of the universe and allow our inner wisdom to guide us toward emotional release and spiritual transformation.

Pisces is a mutable water sign known for its sensitivity, creativity, and connection to the mystical realms. Ruled by Neptune, the planet of dreams, intuition, and spirituality, Pisces energy is deeply introspective and otherworldly. When the full moon lands in this sign, it amplifies these qualities, creating a cosmic invitation to explore the depths of your soul. Themes of the full moon in Pisces include emotional healing, spiritual awakening, creativity and inspiration, compassion and empathy. Neptune, the ruling planet of Pisces, governs dreams, intuition, and spirituality. Under Neptune’s influence, you may find that your dreams are more vivid, your intuition is sharper, and your connection to the unseen world is stronger. Neptune invites you to trust the flow of the universe and surrender to the unknown.

Eclipses are essentially energetic resets. Slightly fated events will go down and unfold that we don’t expect to happen, but are meant to steer us in the direction that we’re meant to go in. Eclipses can be associated with wake-up calls and uncomfortable truths that break us out of our comfort zone. A full moon in Pisces is an amazing release valve. I would argue if you can’t let go of something on this Pisces moon, then I don’t know when you’re going to let it go. Although holding on does not mean something is meant for you. During the Harvest Moon, the moon will start entering the Earth’s partial shadow at 8:41 p.m., and the full shadow at 10:13 p.m. The moon will finish exiting the full shadow at 11:16 p.m., and the partial shadow on Wednesday morning at 12:47 a.m.

The zodiac sign for each full moon is determined by where the moon is positioned in the night sky relative to the different astrological signs. Each year, the moon will shift, resulting in different characteristics surround the moon. This year the Harvest Moon is a lunar eclipse in Pisces, a charming, compassionate, and highly creative water sign, and the 12th and last zodiac on the wheel.  Thanks to Pisces deeply sentimental and spiritual nature, the Harvest Moon in Pisces can signify increased interest in religious and spiritual-based practices, and heightened senses. It’s opposite axis from the Earth sign, Virgo. This means that both zodiac signs hold ties to our health – physical or mental – as well as the physical or spiritual world. This duality grounds us in the practical while also opening us up to the divine as well.

Because Pisces is the domain of dreams and delusions, this eclipse could also signal a coming to light of things we’ve been avoiding or unclear about. Pisces energy is aimed at the pursuit of universal love, and this eclipse calls us to question whether we’re aiming high or living low. Where am I gaining pleasure? Where am I gaining comfort? How am I getting that sense of bliss? How am I experiencing universal love? Am I getting it from the right sources or escaping into mindless territory?

Mercury, our planet of communication, will oppose Saturn, the planet of restriction. This face-off will result in many people going ‘no contact’ with someone who has harmed them, choosing to forgive but recognizing there can be no forgetting and moving on from the relationship.

During the eclipse, Venus, our planet of love and attraction, will be in Libra, opposing Chiron, the asteroid of deep pain and the profound potential for healing, in Aries. Chiron in Aires has a lot to do with self-love, self-worth, embracing all sides of yourself, not seeing your weaknesses as things to run away from but things to address or accept.

With this opposition, that acceptance comes with and through another person. Venus in Libra is any union in which we trust that another person has some advice to give us that we cannot give ourselves. The Pisces Harvest Moon will also dish out an opportunity to break up with any addicting or distracting patterns you’ve developed over the past six months. It’s a moment to focus on accepting uncomfortable transitions, expressing complex emotions, and creating space for new beginning to unfold.
